At a House Intelligence Committee hearing Monday, FBI Director James Comey confirmed that intelligence and law enforcement agencies were still investigating potential collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

The news that Trump's former campaign chairman is wanted for questioning in a Ukrainian corruption case came one day after The New York Times reported that longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone was ordered by the Senate Intelligence Committee not to destroy any documents which might be connected to an investigation of Russian Federation.

Pressed by reporters incredulous that he could dismiss Trump's second campaign manager as having "played a very limited role for a very limited amount of time", Spicer doubled down.

Spicer also tried to diminish Flynn's role in the campaign, despite the fact that he was a top adviser to the president who spoke at the Republican National Convention and was named national security adviser during the campaign.

Manafort's tenure as campaign manager-during which the R.N.C. In the following months, he oversaw the attempt to "pivot" Trump from a blustery populist firebrand into a sober, more "presidential" general election candidate, but he was forced to resign after The New York Times reported that the former lobbyist had allegedly received $12.7 million in undisclosed payments from a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.

He continued: "So to start to look at some individual who was there for a short period of time, or separately individuals who really didn't play a role in the campaign, and to suggest that those are the basis for anything is a bit ridiculous". What are we doing to look into that? After mentioning Donald Trump's scheduled separate meetings with Bill Gates, Paul Ryan, Mike Pence, and Rex Tillerson, Spicer went on to say, "Senior Obama officials have gone on record to confirm there is no evidence of a Trump-Russia collusion". The man is just asking questions!

Although Manafort played no official role in the campaign between August and November, sources told CNN in December that the former chairman was still very much involved with Trump and played an informal role in the presidential transition.

"You saw him utilize this as an opportunity with (Japanese) Prime Minister Abe to help foster deeper relationships in Asia", Spicer said during his press briefing Monday when asked about the apparent hypocrisy.

"So many people (are) jumping to the conclusion that he was going down and playing golf. Just because he heads there doesn't mean that's what's happening".
