2 arrested at East End sobriety checkpoint

Friday, evening, March 17th, Indiana State Police and the Northern Porter County Traffic Safety Partnership conducted a sobriety checkpoint on US 20 and Waverly in Porter.

The Special Operations Division will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Thursday, March 23 from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m., according to an announcement from the Prince George's County Police Department.

Richard Obler, 31, of Sag Harbor, was also arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, police say.

Authorities say Janet Balis-Allen, 44, of NY, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

"The New York State Police will continue to combat impaired driving by teaming up with our local law enforcement partners", State Police Major David Candelaria said in a prepared statement.

State police said the objective of a sobriety checkpoint is to educate drivers and strengthen public awareness to the need of finding and removing drivers who operate under the influence from the roads.
