Everton want Barkley to extend his contract as his current deal expires at the end of next season.

The Mirror claim Spurs and Chelsea have already registered their interest in the England star. Though Everton are keen on keeping the England global, they will cash in instead of losing him on a free in 2018.

Everton boss Koeman suggested last week that if Barkley didn't extend his deal, the club would have to sell him this summer to preserve some portion of his value.

The 23-year-old has admitted before that he feels he has unfinished business at the London club, and recently said he would like to prove himself in the UEFA Champions League again.

However, I wouldn't discount Spurs from the race as Mauricio Pochettino is building an excellent squad at White Hart Lane and Barkley would fit the mold of talented young players that would improve even further under his tutelage. It's not an ultimatum but I spoke to Ross about a new contract and it's up to the board to get that over the line.

When at Chelsea, the forward was seen as the player who could replace Drogba once his time was up, but unfortunately things did not go as planned, and he was sold to Everton for a fee of £28 million (R440 million) in 2014. "It's not unusual talk".
