The 24-year-old winger took the ball off Juan Mata on the half-way line and charged towards goal with the Spaniard and Marcus Rashford alongside him as options, but wasn't closed down by the defence and chose to let fly just outside the box which stunned Victor Valdes as the ball rocketing into the top right corner.

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has admitted to being relived after breaking his Premier League duck for the season by bagging his first goal in the competition during the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough.

It was a thing of beauty.

But while the finish caught the eye, some were a little taken aback by Lingard's celebration, in which he appeared to be commemorating St Patrick's Day.

Or it may have been a reference to American rapper Future who released a video for his song "Mask Off" that features freakish flute playing as a joke.

With usual dance partner Paul Pogba out injured, Lingard's celebrations have taken a unusual turn.

By our reckoning, if you score a great goal then you can do whatever the hell you want, within reason.
