The winter storm wreaking havoc in the Northeast has forced postponement of a National Hockey League game and the cancellations of most flights in and out Buffalo as several college basketball teams head in for the start of the NCAA Tournament. His team is scheduled to play Thursday at Buffalo's Key Bank Center.
With snow and wind not expected to let up until Wednesday, most of the eight teams (Villanova, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Princeton and Bucknell, plus the victor of Tuesday's play-in game between Mount St. Mary's and New Orleans) bundled up and got to Buffalo safe and sound on Monday instead of Tuesday.
Villanova is among the teams that is considering leaving for Buffalo on Monday.
The eight teams bound for first and - they hope - second-round games in Buffalo are: Bucknell, Notre Dame, Princeton, Villanova, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the victor of Tuesday's play-in game between Mount St. Mary's and New Orleans.
Those teams who traveled early got to take advantage of a good ol' fashioned snow day on Tuesday. Their play-in-game tips off at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in Dayton, Ohio.
