Indication emerged at the weekend that the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu endorsed the factional Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Malachi Coker with the recognition given him in his speech during the swearing in of the Secretary to the State Government on Friday.

The lawmakers said their resignation became imperative sequel to the new geopolitical arrangement and configuration in the state and to give room to peace in the state.

But Akindele, and the said principal officers, however, stepped down from their positions following intense pressure from a faction of the divided House.

The police in the state have prevented any of the faction from gaining access to the chambers of the assembly.

The PDP, in a statement issued on Sunday by its state Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, asked Akeredolu to settle down to governance and allow the local government councils to perform their constitutional responsibilities.

Briefing newsmen after the sitting, spokesman of the house, Ironju Ogundeji stressed that the assembly complex was opened for sitting following the intervention of the governor in reconciling the two factions.

Hon. Malachi Coker, who leads the other group, presided over a plenary session of the House today, with members of his group in attendance.

An impeccable source disclosed that Mrs. Akindele's resignation letter, signed with five other principal officers of the Assembly and dated March 20, 2017, was officially received on Monday morning by the governor's chief of staff, Olugbenga Ale.

Mr. Coker also ordered that the security details and government official vehicles and properties attached to Mrs. Akindele be withdrawn from her immediately.
