Rumours began on Monday (10Apr17) that Kate had been rejected by the Californian music festival over fears Americans "wouldn't understand her". (He also found out that former Coachella headliner Beyoncéwas pregnant the same way we all did: Her Instagram post.) But one artist that Tollett reportedly did not want to book?

The festival kicks off this weekend ( April 14 to 16) and then continues on April 21 through 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, located in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley, in the Colorado Desert.

I'll say, "Kate Bush!".

There are a ton of fascinating tidbits in a recent New Yorker profile of Coachella CEO Paul Tollett, and probably the most fascinating of all of them revolves around Kate Bush. You gotta do it!

'I'll say, "Kate Bush!".

Bush hit the British charts for the first time in 1978 with Wuthering Heights which, amazingly, made her the first British female vocalist to hit number 1 with a self-penned song. Apparently, her very first U.S. show was absolutely on the table for Coachella, but the festival curator shot it down on the grounds that nobody would get it.

"It was never Kate's intention to play any more shows than she did in London", a spokesman told NME. "Have to!" "No! No one is going to understand it"'. What had corporate festival culture wrought, when it couldn't deliver the inarguably good of one of our greatest living artists taking the stage for the first time ever in America, because of what the teens might think?

Speaking to The Independent about her hiatus from live shows she said: "It wasn't designed that way, because I really enjoyed the first set of shows we did [in 1979]".

She has expressed in the past how hard she finds touring, while thanking her son Bertie for giving her the encouragement she needed.
