"Dan Rooney was one of the greatest owners in all of professional sports". Rooney's impact on the game goes way beyond the Steelers six championships, however.

In 2003, Dan Rooney ceded control of the day-to-day operations of the team to his son, Art Rooney II, although he still had a big say in how the team operated from season to season.

We have seen a tremendous rise of many successful minority head coaches, including Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rooney also served as USA ambassador to Ireland from 2009 to 2012. "My father meant so much to all of us, and so much to so many past and present members of the Steelers organization".

President Barrack Obama: Rooney served as an ambassador to Ireland under President Obama. Goodell said that "He was someone that was devoted to the National Football League at every level".

Former Steelers Head Coach Bill Cowher: Cowher served as the head coach of the Steelers from 1992-2006. "On behalf of the University of Pittsburgh, I extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Rooney family and the Steelers franchise". In an Instagram post, Pittsburgh All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown spoke for countless Steelers over the years when he wrote, (reading) you looked at me as more than just another jersey number, one of the most genuine and humble human beings I've had the pleasure of knowing.
