The United States hosted the World Cup for the only time in 1994 when Brazil triumphed

Finally, Mexico would become the first nation to host three FIFA World Cups, having previously hosted in 1970 and 1986 where Brazil and Argentina defeated Italy and West Germany respectively at the Estadio Azteca.
Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo, reporting from NY, said: "While the decision isn't expected for another three years, this joint bid is a clear front runner also because there appears to be no challengers".
Gulati also said President Donald Trump is "fully supportive" of the bid, which still needs approval from Federation Internationale de Football Association. "He is especially pleased that Mexico is involved, as for what he said, I'm not going to address that". In the last few days we've gotten further encouragement on that. Trump's politics are important to this bid. "And given what's happened in the last World Cups and some of the Olympic Games, the thought of building sports facilities that don't have a long term use is not one that's particularly inviting for anyone". With that ban in place, the team and its fans would not be able to travel to the States for the Tournament. In addition, the 2026 World Cup will be expanded to include 48 teams, up from the current 32. Following on the tiresome destinations Russian Federation and Qatar are seemingly set to provide as the next two World Cup hosts, we're gonna need it.
Sunil Gulati President of US Soccer Federation speaks during a press conference after announcing the next 2026 World Cup in North America on April 10, 2017 at the One World Trade Center in NY. "We gave careful consideration to the prospect of bidding for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and ultimately feel strongly this is the right thing for our region and for our sport". Investigations into corruption in the governing body are ongoing in the US and Switzerland.
If that sounds a somewhat lopsided arrangement, Gulati hinted that both Mexico - which has staged the finals twice - and Canada would ideally have liked more of the pie. The three nation bid will allow the three countries to host games for the 2026 edition of the World Cup. Ultimately, this will still predominantly be a USA -led effort.
U.S. Soccer will make a historic announcement with fellow CONCACAF member nations Mexico and Canada this Monday at 2 p.m. ET. All games from the quarter-final stage and beyond would be played only in the U.S.
"Canada has already proven itself as a formidable host for the world's game, setting FIFA records for attendance at the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship in 2002, the men's FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007, and the FIFA Women's World CupCanada 2015™", said Victor Montagliani, president of Canada Soccer and CONCACAF.
The fallout from the two Federation Internationale de Football Association executive committee votes included the forced departure of long-standing president Sepp Blatter and the criminal indictments in the USA of more than 40 people.
Even with negative feelings toward Trump in the global community, this bid has a very strong chance of succeding.
