Hours after Serena Williams seemed to accidentally post photos of her baby bump on Snapchat, the tennis overlord's publicist has confirmed the impending arrival of her blessed bébé. She added that Williams will not play again this year but was looking forward to doing so in 2018.

Celebrities and fans had reacted with a mixture of awe and glee to Williams' Snapchat post prior to the confirmation of her pregnancy. "We will let you know once we have further information".

As the New York Daily News points out, Williams was apparently a few weeks pregnant in January when she beat her sister Venus to win the Australian Open.

Serena Williams is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, 33.

Pregnancy has not slowed the Olympic gold-winning tennis star down.

Over her career, Williams has won 39 major titles, which is tops among active players.

Not just on-court, Venus is successful off-court as well with her sportswear label EleVen by Venus and her design firm, V Starr Interiors doing well. Court, an Australian, won the last three of those titles in 1973 after giving birth to a son, Danny, in 1972. She would win the Australian Open just seven months later, and then take home Wimbledon in 1980. Clijsters retired in 2012 at 29. No leading singles player has returned from pregnancy at Williams' age.

However, what appears to be bigger than the rumored baby news is that Williams was most likely pregnant as far back as her first match at this year's Australia Open, which was in January.

He said in a statement: "We're excited for Serena". She pulled out of her next two scheduled events - Indian Wells and Miami - citing a left knee injury.

"I have not been able to train due to my knees and am disappointed I can not be there".

Serena Williams is pictured here reacting after winning a point against Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic during their 2016 US Open Women's Singles semifinal match previous year. But she is set to regain the top spot from Germany's Angelique Kerber on Monday when the latest standings are published.

"At the same table we first met by chance this time he made it not by chance but by choice", she wrote.
