Analyst and tracking firm SuperData is reporting (via VentureBeat) that the company has sold 2.4 million units of the Nintendo Switch worldwide in March, beating Nintendo's own forecasts.

To put those sales in context: Nintendo said the Wii U sold 13.56 million units worldwide between its November 2012 launch and December 2016; nearly 1 million Switch units have been sold in its first month of availability within the US alone. Nintendo notes that this sales surge was accomplished in a non-traditional month for a console launch. Nintendo speculates that this more than 100 percent attach rate could be due to players picking up both limited editions and normal versions of the game.

Some people have also noted that when purchasing the Nintendo Switch bundles they're receiving the guide books, extra controller and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but not the system. For more info on the console's sales, you can check out the full press release from Nintendo below.

According to the NPD Group, Nintendo has revealed that the Nintendo Switch sold more than 900,000 units in North America.

Either way, it's an impressive first month of sales for Nintendo's new console; whether the long-time Japanese game console maker can sustain that momentum is another question altogether. No, that belongs to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which outsold the console most people are playing it on-without even counting its Wii U sales. As for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there are some pretty interesting numbers.
