Vice President Mike Pence acknowledged Wednesday that some of the Trump administration's promises have not yet come to fruition, but he is confident that efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act will be fruitful.

Pence told the ship's captain that he had spoken to President Donald Trump, and Trump "wishes he were here".

"The only thing we need to hear from North Korea is that they are ending and ultimately dismantling their nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles program", Pence said.

The trip so far has been dominated by US and allies' concerns about North Korea's nuclear and missile development efforts.

"The United States of America will always seek peace but under President Trump, the shield stands guard and the sword stands ready", Pence said, speaking in Japan aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, the Associated Press reported. Soon after Trump took office, he pulled the USA out of the TPP - which needed all the signatory nations to ratify the deal. "We want to send an unambiguous message especially to North Korea that any attempt to use weapons of any kind against our allies in this region or American forces overseas will be defeated and will be met with overwhelming force", Pence said in an interview with CNN.

Pence repeated the phrase in South Korea, the first stop on his tour, and again during his speech aboard the Ronald Reagan. "That's what being undermined here with a president who thrives on's going to eat away at the fundamental credibility of the U.S. role in Asia".

Pence said after the meeting that Trump believes it is in America's interest to negotiate economic deals on a bilateral basis.

The VP noted the Trump administration will "work diligently" with allies, including Japan and China, in order to apply economic and diplomatic pressure on Pyongyang.

"Japan, though, is unwilling to give up on the TPP, and it's organizing other member nations to move ahead without the U.S".

"We're firmly committed to continuing to collaborate for the security of our both people", he said.

He also said that misinformation on a Navy strike group's whereabouts is not intentional.

Pence was later on Thursday due to visit Southeast Asia's largest mosque, the Istiqlal mosque, where hardline Islamic groups on Wednesday night celebrated the election win.

Abe said Japan hoped for peaceful dialogue with Pyongyang, "but at the same time, dialogue for the sake of dialogue is valueless and it is necessary for us to exercise pressure North Korea so that it comes forward and engages in this serious dialogue". Trump assailed the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal during his 2016 campaign and announced shortly after his inauguration that the USA would withdraw from the Pacific Rim- based TPP, which now includes 11 countries from Chile to New Zealand.
