The visit of the two leaders coincides with the 30th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings to be held from April 26 to 29.

The Asean meeting will push through the central Philippine island recently rocked by a foiled attack of the extremist Abu Sayyaf group.

He said other Asean leaders may have a "pull-aside" with the President, if their request for a bilateral meeting would not push through.

Paynor said Asean's committee on security is preparing to ensure "zero incident" during the 30th Asean summit in Manila.

But analyst Aaron L. Connelly of the Lowy Institute for International Policy said that, considering Mr. Trump's "habits", the U.S. leader is unlikely to attend the ASEAN summit in Manila. Though Duterte will be in attendance at the May summit, Trump has not yet confirmed.

"It became crystal clear when [Pence] underscored their commitment to ASEAN", Rahmat told reporters after the meeting. "As you, President Widodo have said so often, we're looking for a win-win relationship and we're confident that we can find it on an increasing basis", Pence said.

In a phone call in December a year ago, President Duterte invited then President-elect Trump to the ASEAN Summit.

"Multilateral meetings of this sort, we usually expect 100 percent attendance".

All 10 Asean leaders would then have the actual summit on April 29. The Philippine Star reported that some 4,000 people are expected to attend the event, though Tiotuico said he wasn't sure whether Chinese President Xi Jinping would come.

On another matter, Mr. Duterte might visit South Korea, an ASEAN dialogue partner, in the "second half of this year" - according to the Korean newspaper Maeil Business News Korea which cited Korea Importers Association (KOIMA). But it " s sometime in early May", Bolivar said.

"Of course DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) recommends this and that visit but of course we defer to the Palace for the final decision", he added.

Indonesia was Duterte's first foreign trip back in September.
