The game between the Chiefs and Patriots is the NFL's annual season kickoff game on a Thursday night. For the first time in five years, neither the Cleveland Browns nor the Jacksonville Jaguars will play in prime time. It won't be quite the same without him.

Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 17, vs.

The Chargers play their first home game at the StubHub Center, their temporary Los Angeles home, following their offseason move from San Diego. As the National Football League attempts to build an global fan base of 200 million people, let's rank the five-game slate based on how interesting the games appear - at least here in the third week of April. It will be interesting to see how they're received. Here's a breakdown of the Patriots' 2017 schedule in its entirety.

It's the beginning of the end for the Raiders in Oakland.

The oddsmakers in Las Vegas are certainly taking notice.

Last year's ratings slide for the NFL clearly impacted the league's schedule-making process. That certainly remains to be seen. The Packers take on the Cowboys and the Falcons, and the Falcons also take on the Seahawks.

The Patriots also finalized their preseason schedule, which starts at home against Jacksonville on August 10, a 7:30 p.m. start.

It was a memorably great Super Bowl, and the Falcons can't do anything in a regular season game to make up for their late meltdown in Houston in February. The quarterback has emerged as an MVP candidate and transformed the Raiders into a legitimate AFC title contender.

Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 26, vs. Denver at 1:25 p.m. (CBS) Comment: Excellent offense vs. excellent defense.

This would have been the NFC championship game, albeit in Dallas, if the Cowboys had not been upset in a conference semifinal by the Packers. But the Cardinals have plenty of star power across their roster, from tailback David Johnson (NFL-leading 2,118 yards from scrimmage in 2016) to pass-rusher Chandler Jones to defensive backs Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu. The game is the second regular-season contest to be played in Mexico in two years, both with the Raiders as the home team.

Eagles at Rams, Dec. 10 at 3:25 p.m. My guess regarding the logic behind this decision is that the Patriots are likely to win the division regardless, so why not make it interesting by giving the rest of the AFC East a chance to either close the gap or play spoiler late. The Chiefs lost to the Patriots, 27-20, on January 16, 2016; Sherman caught one pass for a yard in the contest.

It's also conceivable the New York Giants, who also will visit Oakland and Santa Clara, could get an extended Bay Area stay.

From playoff rematches to players returning to their former home, the league's 256 games over four months should give us a little of everything. I spent all day yesterday eagerly anticipating finally knowing what the Patriots season is going to look like.
