At least six people have been injured in a train derailment in Woss, which is about 75 kilometres southeast of Port McNeill on Northern Vancouver Island.

An investigation into the incident has begun, including the RCMP, Coroners Service, Transportation Safety Board and WorksafeBC.

Western Forest Products said they provide more information as it becomes available. "The safety and security of our staff and the communities where we work are paramount".

Dave Rushton, the community's regional elected representative, says the cause of the accident is under investigation but early reports indicate a crew on the tracks was buried beneath the logs when the cars crashed into them.

A coroner has been dispatched to the scene of this morning's train derailment on Vancouver Island.

The Western Forest Products train was carrying company personnel and lumber. The company says it's fully co-operating with authorities.

Paramedics transported two people to hospital, one via air and one via ground ambulance.
