According to news reports, Kori Ali Muhammad shot a total of four people late this morning, killing three. "In the midst of a tragedy officers see and experience things that no one else should experience, and we know it takes a toll on them", said Dyer.

Muhammad's father, Vincent Taylor, said that his son believed there was a race was going on in America.

Muhammad shot the guard, 25-year-old Carl Williams, multiple times at close range shortly after 11 p.m., police said - an act that would set off a chain of events leading to Tuesday's mass shooting.

"If in fact he's lashing out at white people - white males in this case - that would constitute a hate crime", Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. "Those debriefings are very helpful, it allows officers to come together in a secure environment and to be able to talk about those things they experienced", said Dyer. Friday morning, he watched police officers investigate the crime scene and by evening he was in a ravine, where he told police he conducted voodoo rituals for three days.

"There was no statement made on Thursday night when he shot the security guard and killed him", Dyer said. "You can't have terror and you can't have race at the same time", he said.

Muhammad said Williams had shown him disrespect while Muhammad was visiting a woman at the motel, according to police.

Jackson, the host of "The Black Sphere", went on to add, "The only thing that's missing from this equation, and I'm glad it didn't happen, is that he targeted law enforcement".

On Saturday afternoon, Muhammad posted a photo of himself in a colorful garment, with his head covered, and the words: "LET BLACK PEOPLE GO OR THE DOOM INCREASES REPARATIONS & SEPARATION NOW".

On Monday he wrote: "MY KILL RATE INCRESASES TREMENDOUSLY ON THE OTHER SIDE ASÈ ALLAH U AKBAR". He also said that Martin Luther King "wanted to hug their hands, and get along with them, and lick their feet and they still killed him".

Muhammad is being held in the Fresno County Jail without bail.

In 2005, Muhammad was indicted by a grand jury on cocaine and firearm possession, but was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. He ultimately served 92 months in federal prison, records show.
