It will be her first awards show performance in more than 15 years.

Of course, giving Cher an icon award is stating the obvious.

The Thursday announcement about Cher came from dick clark productions and ABC.

That's because all-around pop culture icon Cher is going to be performing her classic club anthem "Believe" and receiving the Icon Award at the awards show on May 21, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The 70-year-old is expected to sing her 1998 smash "Believe", the memorable dance anthem that spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 almost two decades ago. "We are honored to celebrate her exceptional career with the 2017 Billboard Music Awards Icon Award and look forward to what's sure to be an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime performance!"

Cher, who turns 71 the day before the awards show, will also receive the ICON award at the event, joining an esteemed group of past winners including Céline Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Neil Diamond.

"Cher's incredible talent has inspired both audiences and other artists for more than six decades", CEO Allen Shapiro said.

Other artists set to take the stage at the Billboard Awards include Drake, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion, Lorde, Nicki Minaj, Imagine Dragons, Florida Georgia Line and John Legend.

The Billboard Music Awards will take place May 21 on ABC.
