The Obamas made the announcement while presenting a 3-D proposed plan for his presidential center that will be developed over the next four years in Chicago's Jackson Park neighborhood. At Wednesday evening's ceremony, the husband-wife team opened up about the conceptual ideas driving their yet-to-be-revealed design for the Obama Presidential Library.

The Foundation, chaired by Obama buddy Marty Nesbitt, is overseeing the design, development and fundraising for the Obama Center and its related programming activities, potentially around the globe.

Barack Obama and the former First Lady of the United States of America Michelle Obama, returned recently from what many have called a vacation spree after leaving the White House. Expected attendees included Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a onetime chief of staff in the Obama administration.

Obama did not mention his successor, instead focusing on details about the center, including potential exhibits and traffic patterns. RENDERINGS OF THE OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL CENTERSo far, the public was told the presidential center will include a museum, a library, offices and an event space.

By planning more than one building, the Obama Foundation says it hopes the Center will be a "living, working center for engagement - an ongoing project for the community and world to shape what it means to be an active citizen in the 21st century".

Obama's presidential center is slated for completion in 2021 and will cost an estimated $500 million to build, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"We are proud that the center will help spur development in an urban area and we can't wait to forge new ways to give back to the people of Chicago who have given us so much", the former first couple said in a statement in July of the site, which beat out competition from Hawaii (the president's birthplace) and NY (where he attended college). "They talk about the violence", Obama said at a forum to unveil the plans.

"It transformed downtown Chicago and the same thing can happen here but we have to be bold in how we visualize the project", he said.

Obama envisioned the presidential center to become a hub for young people to learn music and films, get trained in leadership so that they can make a difference. He and Michelle purchased their first home in the neighborhood, his children were born at the nearby University of Chicago Hospital and he taught law at the University of Chicago's campus.
