Sam Allardyce laments Crystal Palace's defensive errors against Manchester City

"Defensively we made too many mistakes and they punished us heavily", Allardyce said.

But he did make the claim that City are the Premier League's best side at creating chances. It was at White Hart Lane against Tottenham. "The others, no chance", Guardiola said. All five goals could have been avoided if we had defended properly.

"You can't imagine this season that Chelsea and Liverpool were [not in Europe] last season [with] the players and managers they had and they were out".

Pep Guardiola claims Manchester City are the Premier League's best team from box to box, but insists they must sharpen up at either end of the pitch next season.

"[Silva] is one of the best", the Belgium worldwide said.

It could have been 1-1 at half-time with the chances we carved out so we did recover really well from what was a bad goal from our point of view. The most hard thing in all the sports is to do it, in the last moment.

David Silva scored the first goal of the afternoon in just the second minute of the match before an emphatic finish from Vincent Kompany doubled City's lead on 49 minutes.

"So it is a massive game for us all, and our players have to hold their nerve and produce a massive performance".

Speaking after the eventual 5-0 defeat, Allardyce said: "The recovery was very, very good, indeed".

Kompany appears finally to be over his injury problems after stringing together five successive starts and his team-mates celebrated the captain's rare but well-taken goal by slapping his head. The Belgian and Otamendi, plus Yaya Toure, anchored City in the centre, allowing de Bruyne and Silva to roam and a lighting-quick front line to attack the spaces between and behind Palace's defenders.

It was remarkable that Leroy Sane did not score, given his number of penetrating runs.

"It is in our hands for a place in the Champions League", the 46-year-old Spanish manager added.

There is, though, the possibility that all three could still qualify, if United win the Europa League and finish fifth.

Another win for Palace should see them remain in the Premier League next season. If we win all four games we will definitely be in the Champions League and maybe in the third position. "It will be incredible", Guardiola added.

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho managed to enjoy 8 minutes playing time Saturday as Manchester City handed Crystal Palace a 5-0 demolition at the Ethihad Stadium.

Allardyce's side have a six-point safety cushion but can still be caught by Hull City and Swansea City. The mood's not great because we are at that time in the season where we need to win games and it didn't happen on Sunday (at Boro).
