Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham put in a flawless performance to beat Manchester United 2-1 in their final Premier League game at White Hart Lane.

"Nobody can play two big competitions with 15 players and this is what we have at the time".

Reacting on their final opponents, Mourinho said: "First of all two monsters - the history of Manchester United and the history of Ajax is fantastic". When he first came from South America it was to play for AZ Alkmaar under Louis van Gaal, which is how he ended up at Old Trafford as backup when it appeared De Gea might leave for Real Madrid.

United will qualify for the Champions League if they beat Ajax and Mourinho added: "After 14 matches we are in the final. Because if I have (injured players) Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic, Tim Fosu-Mensah, if I have these guys (available), I can rotate, I can go for every match", Mourinho told his post match news conference in north London today. There is supposed to be something quite mythical and mystical about cheering for United from the terraces all across England, but this was just another performance which could have been turned in by players wearing a Macclesfield Town shirt rather than a Manchester United one.

"I can not go to Manchester City or Arsenal and put out five kids at the same time altogether". We were pushed for that situation and even the [fixtures] draw... I can't stop thinking about what could have been... but that's life that's football, you win some you lose some.

"We gave a hard match to our opponent".

To his critics, Mourinho said he did not know what was a priority for other clubs, but was clear what United are targeting.

They can also call upon cup pedigree that saw them overcome Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of this season's Copa del Rey, a year after they had accounted for Atletico Madrid at the same stage of the tournament. But when I analyse my work I know what I had to do.

Jose Mourinho says he has no regrets about Manchester United's failure to finish in the Premier League top four, insisting that trophies are more important to the club. Until the injuries arrived, we fought for the Premier League top four. We need to feel that Wembley is our home and we need to find a balance between White Hart Lane and there. After 2-0 we brought a bit more balance to the team because we put players in the right positions and we put midfielders in midfield and the team improved a lot.

"I am not upset because we had to make that decision", Mourinho said.

"We didn't gamble, it was a compulsory option".

"We are going to do this in this last week, these last three matches we are going to try not to accumulate too many minutes with any one of the players".
