The youngster has been targeted for his professional techniques by many global clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has a €100 million release clause in his contract with Atleti, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in the world, though his cost would largely be offset by the transfer fee received for De Gea as United will demand a significant sum for him.

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak amid concerns that David De Gea will push through a summer move to Real Madrid, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Slovenian shot-stopper is highly coveted in the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all linked with bids as they prepare for potential goalkeeping departures.

The newspaper says that United officials have already sounded out Oblak about a potential switch to Old Trafford and the Slovenian global is keen to join if a deal can be agreed.

What is unclear at this stage though is who will replace him at Old Trafford, as The Daily Star report that while United will collect £60m from his sale, they'll use £40m of that to prise Oblak away from Atletico.

Should De Gea leave, which is far from guaranteed at the moment, Mourinho will have a big decision to make over his keeper situation.

"I still think he's the best in the Premier League".
