Meanwhile to the northwest, residents in Barron County are trying to move forward after a tornado leveled most homes in a trailer park near Chetek (sheh-TEK').

Amazingly, Nolan escaped with just a couple of scratches, he said. The National Weather Service confirmed the EF3 tornado was actually on the ground for 27 miles with maximum winds of about 165 mph.

The weather service says the twister packed winds of 120 to 130 miles per hour, or even slightly stronger, when it hit the park near Chetek on Tuesday evening. We have several homes that were completely destroyed.

Walker will survey what's left of the Prairie Lakes Estates Mobile Home Park near Chetek Wednesday afternoon where 46-year-old Eric Gavin was killed. Samuelson's daughters suffered minor injuries.

"This was a supercell that developed, a discrete storm", he said Tuesday night.

"Large hail, tornadoes and wind damage also will be possible outside of these areas across parts of the southern and central Plains".

Firefighters work the site of the damage after a tornado ripped through Prairie Lake Estates trailer home park, just north of Chetek, Wis., Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Mayor Jeff Martin in nearby Chetek (sheh-TEK') says turkeys can be seen wandering in the damage.

The Barron County Department of Health and Human Services is asking the public for now to not to bring more donations to an emergency shelter set up at Mosaic Telecom in Cameron, because of limited space.

Images shot from a helicopter for CNN affiliate KFOR showed homes with their roofs ripped off. Photos from the scene showed flattened homes and debris and furniture strewn across streets.

Tornadoes reportedly touched down in five states on Tuesday night, including Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas, in addition to Wisconsin. "I thank the Wisconsin National Guard, Wisconsin Emergency Management, and all state agencies for their coordinated response to this emergency".

One person was killed and about 50 to 75 homes were damaged Tuesday night when tornadoes tore a path through an Elk City subdivision, said Danny Ringer, a chaplain with the Elk City Fire Department.

According to CBS Minnesota, besides firefighters and paramedics, the Red Cross also rushed to the trailer park to give assistance to the injured and those whose homes had been destroyed by the tornado. "Some strong, long-lived tornadoes are expected, along with hail to near 4 inches in diameter, over parts of Kansas and Oklahoma", forecasters at the center said. It was not immediately known if there were injuries. The Storm Prediction Center website mentioned that in 2011, when deadly tornadoes struck Alabama, Mississippi, and Joplin, Missouri, 20 percent of the 551 fatalities that year, accounting for 111 lives, were people who lived in mobile homes.
