It also figures to pay major dividends for Paul and Harden individually as players. For a crew of 20 and $157 a pop, James could theoretically have meats, sausage, and sides catered every day for the next 1,452,229 days, or about the next 3,978 years. That's what we're working toward.

"Houston is home for me", he said. He made a point of saying in his statement that he will "continue to not be involved in the operations of this team", which allows him to remain out of the media spotlight - which he may crave even more than his team having success. "We have one goal here, and that's to win".

I'd assume that GM Neil Olshey is making calls to try and move contracts. He spent the first two years of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook when the trio was just getting started in the NBA. They stayed glued to the shooters, planted big bodies near the rim and, most notably, left the middle of the floor uncovered. You work your whole career if you're myself to get a player of James' caliber and now Chris [Paul's] caliber.

Houston appears to be the top target. "Two guys that can create and facilitate and do things with the ball that nobody's done from the [point guard] and shooting guard position". My gut tells me that Paul accepts this role, makes tremendous impacts as a secondary initiator, and counters the Spurs-like pick and roll coverages when asked to.

"He got that from me, Thompson said with a smile. He's going to help me, and we're going to help each other, and we're going to help this team hopefully get to where we want to be at". Defensively, he's a beast.

Only Carmelo knows if he's still open to staying in NY at this point.

So are the Rockets any closer to catching the defending-champion Warriors?

He was determined to be involved, enough, however, to prevent arguably the best candidate on the market for the job - former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin - from bringing in his own people to New York's front office. With three shooters instead of one, as well as multiple capable playmakers, Paul figures to bask in the unforeseen space rather than being confined to the outskirts of two point land.
