The Premier League champions were dealt a blow last week when they were beaten to the signature of Romelu Lukaku by Manchester United, who are still understood to be keen to sign Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic. A hefty price tag for the Brazilian has lead to Chelsea breaking the bank in their offers, but Juventus has rejected their offers so far.

"It is a worrying situation because Chelsea need a striker in place", Canoville told Sky Sports.

Having been given an extended break this summer to sort out his return to Spain, Costa has been on Instagram live to post a video of him partying in an Atleti shirt, where he also responds to a comment by mocking Conte. Hazard got injured as well [on international duty with Belgium] and won't be ready for the start of the season.

Two key pieces from Chelsea's Premier League winning campaign a season ago are missing from the club's preseason tour in Asia. You need someone who's capable of holding the ball up and can finish.

"Roma is a big club too, in Italy, but I think Chelsea is a different level and of course the biggest reason [for his move] was the coach, Antonio Conte".

Whether the Blues send him out on a six-month loan and then sell him to the Spanish side is a question we will have to find out.

However, the Blues have splashed out £40m on Monaco midfielder Tiermoue Bakayoko, who joins fellow new boys Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero at the Bridge. "I'm sure Chelsea will bring in the right players to help them compete on all fronts".
