His release by the Browns followed a four game suspension for another violation of the league's policy of performance enhancing drugs.

The 26-year-old Bryant re-signed with Detroit in March after he had three sacks in five games.

Bryant should find himself lucky to still have a spot on the roster, given that he is far from first time offender. Bryant violated the NFL's substance abuse policy.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Bryant was suspended the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. But even if he did have a breakout season, it wouldn't address the lack of depth at defensive end.

The most recent suspension marks his third in two years. "Bryant is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games". The Lions are hopeful Hyder can emerge as a consistent starter on the other side of Ansah after leading the team with eight sacks in 2016.

Bryant is the second Lions defensive lineman to be suspended by the NFL this offseason, joining tackle Khyri Thornton, who was suspended in June for six games for violating the substance abuse policy.

In 2016, Bryant was indicted on drug possession charges.
