Thunderstorms brought dramatic lightning strikes to the Bay Area on Monday night, briefly halting operations at San Francisco International Airport, delaying the Giants-Dodgers game and causing power outages throughout the city. While others began to squirm in their chairs and on social media about the mini winning drought, I was calm and collected, assured that this team needed a healthy taste of defeat.

The Jays, sure, are auditioning some kids, and Teoscar Hernandez had a day on Sunday, but they played themselves out of the race in April and never really got in it. The ups were so small compared to the downs they were barely worth mentioning. They then salvaged just one game of a four-game set against the San Diego Padres, who currently sit at 65-79.

Mitch Haniger was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-4 for Seattle, which lost for the fifth time in seven games. Derek Law notched the win in relief, while Sam Dyson picked up his 13th save. Yasiel Puig was 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored for Los Angeles. Corey Seager was 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and two RBIs.

If this continues and the Dodgers are unable to generate an early lead, this is great news for the D-backs if they should meet in the playoffs.

Over the last 17 games, they have struggled to get a lead, and have only scored the first run of the game four times.

Instead, they get a Tennessee Vols team riding high after a 2-0 start and with the residual confidence of its win over the Gators a year ago in Knoxville, Tenn. "Co-dy!" for Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger were impressive enough in the enemy ballpark, even more impressive in that they were heard at midnight.

An announcement came on the scoreboard during a fourth-inning pitching change: The final BART trains would leave downtown locations at 12:20 a.m. "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch came at 1:25 a.m. They would combine to allow two runs on three hits and a walk, retiring just one hitter apiece.

Stratton is looking to bounce back from a rough outing last Monday, when he allowed three runs and eight hits over four innings against Colorado. 17 games and 16 losses later, the Dodgers have 92 victories, the Nats 88. "Despite the pedestrian yards-per-carry number, Gurley looked every bit the electric and powerful back that Rams fans know he can be, especially on his 5-yard touchdown, during which he chopped his feet and fought past four defenders for a score". "You have to be able to go out there and show it off".

To make matters worse, the Diamondbacks' only series against an over.500 opponent is this week against the Rockies. The second game of the series Tuesday will feature a showdown between Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw and Giants RHP Johnny Cueto.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were one of the greatest regular season teams in MLB history.

Tyler Anderson (4-5) gave up one hit in four innings of scoreless relief.

For the D'Backs, they will have their ace, Zack Greinke, on the mound. "This season is such a grind". Additionally, the two rank in the top-10 in dWAR from the the right side of the infield. He spent nearly 30 years covering a variety of sports for The Star. But by the end of Saturday, that conversation likely will have veered to one extreme or the other.
