Chelsea aren't budging and whilst Marca say a deal for Costa's transfer to Atletico Madrid "should be closed this week", they also believe it will be for around the headline figure of €60m.

Diego Costa is finally set to return to Europe, after a series of false claims, Marca reckon this time it's true and the Spanish worldwide will be ending his three month holiday in Brazil.

That embargo ends at the start of 2018 - meaning Atleti could officially sign Costa in January - but Chelsea had previously been refusing to discuss a transfer until Costa returned from Brazil and reported for training at Cobham, even while exiled from first team matters.

Bizarrely, Costa has been included in the Blues Premier League squad.

Conte deemed Costa surplus to requirements and opted to invest £70 million in Morata and has been rewarded with three goals in five games, but Zola warns consistency is how he will stay a success at Chelsea. The 28-year-old made no secret of his desire to return to Atletico Madrid and refused to return to Stamford Bridge, spending the close season in his native Brazil.

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola expresses his sadness over the club's transfer dispute with Diego Costa. That would suit Atletico; they can not register the transfer until 1st January 2018 so have three months to work on Costa's match sharpness with the target of unleashing him on La Liga after the Christmas break.
