There has been a shooting incident on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Texas Tech Police made a welfare check on Daniels Monday evening. "Upon entering the room, officers found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia". Daniels shot the officer and allegedly took off the officer's body camera before escaping on foot. The campus was on lockdown after the shooting until the suspect was taken into custody, and the lockdown was lifted. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with this officer's family and the Texas Tech community today and in the days ahead.

The suspect was identified as Hollis Daniels, a 19-year-old freshman from Seguin, Texas, according to university spokesman Chris Cook.

This photo provided by Texas Tech University shows slain Texas Tech Police Department Officer Floyd East Jr., 48.

He then fled the scene as SWAT forces tried to track him down. He confirmed that one person was shot at the school's police division but declined to immediately provide any other details.

"After witnessing the actions last night of our law enforcement community here locally, I would like to reassure the Texas Tech community, parents, students and faculty that they are in good hands", Bonath said. Classes will resume as scheduled tomorrow, Oct. 10.

A Texas Tech University police officer was shot and killed at the campus police station in Lubbock Monday night, university officials said.
