The official website writes that: "Sadio Mane is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury on worldwide duty, Liverpool FC can confirm". The club struggled to deal with his departure for the African Nations Cup in January and had to alter their style when he picked up meniscus damage in his left knee three months later.

Mane had already endured a turbulent start the season after serving a three-match domestic suspension having received a red card during his side's 5-0 trouncing at City in September.

That brought them only four goals across a 1-1 Premier League draw with Burnley and back-to-back meetings with Leicester, who knocked Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup before the Reds responded with a 3-2 league win.

Since his debut in August 2016 Liverpool average 2.2 Premier League goals with Mane in the team, compared to 1.6 goals in his absence.

Liverpool are in seventh place now after an indifferent start to the campaign, seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City but only two behind Tottenham in third.

All in all, it looks like Sadio Mane will also miss the following: league matches against Tottenham, Huddersfield, West Ham, and Southampton; plus tilts against Sevilla and Maribor in UEFA Champions League group play.
