Carlos Beltran retires from baseball

Nadal pulled out of the Paris Masters at the quarterfinal stage 10 days ago and admitted ahead of the ATP Finals on the indoor hard-court he struggles on, that his knees, which have caused him trouble throughout his career, were still "not perfect".

There was a collective sigh of relief when the Cardinals signed Carlos Beltran prior to the 2012 season; partly because he'd hopefully fill a gap left in Albert Pujols' wake, but mainly because the guy couldn't hurt us anymore. He played 2,586 regular season games in the majors, and until he won that World Series, he was one of just three players with more than 2,500 games and no ring. He finished fourth in the NL MVP race in 2006 as he led the team to Game 7 of the NLCS before losing to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jankowski scored the next two goals to give Calgary its first lead of the night. Get that outta here.

Beltran finishes his big league career with 2725 hits to go with a.279/.350/.486 line with 435 career home runs and 1,587 RBI. Join the Kings of Kauffman team!

Astros super utility player Marwin Gonzalez credits long talks with Beltran for a breakthrough season.

While Beltran's long career as a player may be coming to an end, he's not about to walk away from baseball completely.

It's about utilizing an avalanche of information, collaborating with front-office executives and surrounding oneself with competent people.

Bellinger received all 30 first-place votes in the voting conducted by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, giving the Dodgers the top NL rookie honor for a major league-best 18th time. But he did rave about his career and the respect he has for him. Assessing defense is not an exact science, but we appreciate defense a lot more now than we have in the past. We know that he gave it everything he could to ensure he was doing his part to help this team. He was a fierce advocate for players, particularly Latinos, and campaigned for the introduction of the interpreters who are now required in clubhouses.

The pursuit for Stanton to the Yankees is real but the Yankees actually signing him seems like just a rumor to drive up the price. Some hitters, the ones who crouch low and jerk their hands through the zone, look like they need the use of every muscle in their body to hit a dinger.

Beltran appeared in 10 games this postseason, including three in the World Series. I learned a lot about what being a veteran means and the impact we can have. He was 64. Anderson called Capel one of the school's "most respected alumni and former coaches" in a statement. The 40-year-old Montreal native will report to Braves chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk, who also announced that John Hart is moving into a new role as a senior advisor.
