It was announced in early January that "Black Panther" had eclipsed "Captain America: Civil War" in terms of first-day pre-sales for a Marvel movie.

Directed by Ryan Coogler and featuring a predominantly black cast including Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o and Angela Bassett, "Black Panther" was hailed by the Daily Beast as "a love letter to every black person" and "a correction for years of diversity neglect" by Rolling Stone. As of Wednesday morning, the film has a perfect 100 percent rating based on the reviews of 65 film critics.

The groundbreaking film also boasts an aggregate score of 87 on Metacritics, which, if the score stands, makes Black Panther the highest rated Marvel movie, outperforming Spiderman 2 (2004) with its 82 aggregate score.

Set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda, "Black Panther" centers on King T'Challa - portrayed by Chadwick Boseman - in his fight to defend the country.

Business Insider noted that Black Panther arrived at the perfect time.

The movie will be released in cinemas across South African on 16 February.
