Intel Considering Microsoft Surface Killer with Curved Display

Previous reports indicated that the Surface Phone would be unveiled in mid-2016; however, that didn't come to fruition. But the lineup is missing one key element - a smartphone device.

Intel is one of the companies that are looking into ways to build a 2-in-1 device competing against Microsoft's Surface, and a new report indicates that the firm has already patented a new design that would be specifically aimed at challenging Redmond's own model.

According to Smart Stock News, Microsoft might be taking its time in revealing a Surface Phone to ensure that it is going to meet - or possibly exceed - the market's expectations. Also, Surface Book with Intel Core i5/8GB RAM/256GB device (gpu) model is now available for $1649.

It is still unclear; Microsoft Surface Pro 5 would be fuelled by Intel Kaby Lake chips or Qualcomm Snapdragon 635. Rumors are mounting up on the internet that the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 would launch in three variants and may roll out with a foldable display.

The third variant is rumored to house a whopping 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, which easily rivals some computers.

With the price slash on the Surface Pro 4 and the exit of the Surface Pro 3 from the store shelves, could it be that Microsoft is, indeed, releasing the Surface Pro 5 in the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 happening in Barcelona, Spain later this month, just like what earlier speculations suggested?

The Surface Phone will be equipped with a fingerprint scanner and may also offer support for a stylus, as well as keyboard cover like the Surface Pro.

Despite the leaked patents, there is no word on when we can expect to see this Intel tablet. Here's a look at the speculated features, specs and release date of the alleged Microsoft smartphone.

The curved screen is something we've seen a lot of with TVs and monitors (featuring ultra-wide 21:9 displays in the latter case) these days, although of course it's not so easy to translate to a notebook - even though Acer managed this feat with its Predator 21 X.

That being said, technology and mobile enthusiasts have been waiting to hear when a Surface Phone will be released. Naturally, given the fact that it will be launch in 2018, there would probably appear new rumors suggesting new specs and features, considering that both Apple and Samsung are expected to release a new flagship next year.
